Pro Football Hall of Famer and Monday Night Football analyst Troy Aikman joked that he would be "in trouble" after an on-air flub involving pop superstar Taylor Swift during the live broadcast of the game between the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium Monday (October 7) night.

Aikman mistakenly referred to Swift, the girlfriend of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, as "the Mrs." after the ESPN broadcast showed Swift celebrating Kelce's first down reception late in the second quarter.

“The Mrs. likes it,” Aikman said.

Monday Night Football play-by-play man Joe Buck, who has served as Aikman's broadcast partner since 2002 when the two previously worked for FOX Sports, interjected shortly after the mistake.

"You know they're not married?" Buck said.

“Oh I know,” Aikman responded. “I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.”

Buck then joked that the mistake was commonly made by former Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks as CBS lead NFL analyst Tony Romo had also mistakenly referred to Swift as Kelce's wife during the 2023 season.

Swift attended Kelce's game for the first time since Week 2, having missed the Chiefs' last two road games, which have reportedly coincided with preparation for the relaunch of her 'Eras Tour' later this month. Kelce recorded a season-best nine receptions for 70 yards, coming off a seven-catch, 89-yard performance in Week 4, following an uncharacteristic slump to start the season.

The Chiefs defeated the Saints, 26-13, to improve to 5-0, joining the Minnesota Vikings as the only remaining undefeated NFL teams through the first five games of the 2024 season.
