New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that China is donating 1,000 ventilators to the state as they struggle to deal with the global coronavirus pandemic. New York has a total of 113,704 COVID-19 cases as of Saturday (April 4) morning. There are 15,905 patients in the hospital and 4,126 people in intensive care. The virus has killed 3,565 people in the state.
"This is a big deal, and it's going to make a significant difference for us. Also, the state of Oregon contacted us and is going to send 140 ventilators," Cuomo said. "Which is I can tell you just astonishing and unexpected. And I want to thank Gov. Brown, I want to thank all of the people in the state of Oregon for their thoughtfulness."
The ventilators are expected to arrive later in the day on Saturday and will be put to use immediately.
Cuomo said that he expects the number of cases to peak in the next four to ten days.
