PAUL, MN. â Honoring the singular career of an all-time franchise great, the Minnesota Twins today announced that Joe Mauerâs uniform number 7 will be retired in a pregame ceremony at Target Field on âJoe Mauer Day,â Saturday, June 15. Further details about the event, which takes place prior to the Twinsâ 6:10 p.m. contest against Kansas City, are forthcoming.
Additionally, the Twins revealed plans for a series of four giveaway bobbleheads commemorating Mauerâs storied path from local prep stardom to American League Most Valuable Player and franchise icon, along with an exclusive fifth bobblehead available only to those who purchase a âMauer Bobblehead Four-Packâ (on-sale beginning Thursday, Jan. 17 at 10:00 a.m.).
Joe Mauer Day â June 15, 2019
From his major league debut on Opening Day 2004 through the 2018 season finale â a stellar 15-year big league career, spent all in Minnesota â Joe Mauer proudly wore the number 7 Twins jersey. On Saturday, June 15, he will become the eighth Twins player or manager to have his number retired by the organization as part of âJoe Mauer Dayâ at Target Field. In addition, the Twins, in conjunction with all of Major League Baseball, retired Jackie Robinsonâs No. 42 in 1997.
The first 20,000 fans in attendance at Target Field on Saturday, June 15 will receive a special, No. 7 baseball cap.
Mauer Bobblehead Four-Pack
The âMauer Bobblehead Four-Packâ ticket package provides entrance to all four 2019 Target Field dates on which the Twins will give out 10,000 each of a set of four commemorative Joe Mauer bobbleheads (those purchasing the package must still be among the required first number of fans entering the ballpark to receive the giveaway), along with guaranteed receipt of an exclusive fifth statuette depicting Joeâs improbable, behind-the-net catch on June 10, 2010.
May 24 vs. Chicago White Sox â The first in the bobblehead series features Mauerâs signature swing, as depicted in the Cretin-Derham Hall High School âRaidersâ jersey in which he hit .567.
July 19 vs. Oakland â The second takes us back to April 5, 2004, when a 21-year-old Mauer was the Twinsâ starting catcher in his major league debut, going 2-for-3 in a 7-4, Opening Day victory over Cleveland at the Metrodome.
Aug. 24 vs. Detroit â The third honors the legacy of Mauerâs sensational 2009 season, in which he captured the American League MVP, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Awards for the AL Central champion Twins.
Sept. 7 vs. Cleveland â The last in the series commemorates the final game of Mauerâs career, Sept. 30, 2018 â a day that will forever be remembered in Twins lore.
Together, the base of the four gate giveaway bobbleheads form a number â7â.
