Twins Acquire Chalmers from Oakland in Exchange for Rodney

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced tonight that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Dakota Chalmers from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for right-handed pitcherFernando Rodney.  

Chalmers, 21, was drafted by Oakland in the 3rd round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of North Forsyth High School in Cumming, GA.  He appeared in two games (1 start) this season for Low-A Beloit, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing one unearned run with eight walks and 10 strikeouts.  The 6-foot-3, 175-pound right-hander has pitched four minor league seasons for the Athletics, going 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA (121.1 IP, 55 ER), 91 walks and 137 strikeouts.

Fernando Rodney was acquired by the Twins via free agency this past off-season and appeared in 46 games, going 3-2 with a 3.09 ERA (43.2 IP, 15 ER), 25 saves, 19 walks and 50 strikeouts.

The Twins will make a corresponding roster move prior to tomorrow night’s game in Detroit.
